Gallery Presentation
Created in 2008 in Locquirec, the Réjane Louin Gallery takes up the daily challenge of showing and diffusing contemporary artistic proposals in a small coastal town in North Finistère. For 16 years, the gallery has been supporting and defending emerging artists as well as established artists, both French and foreign.
Thanks to a personal and committed program, around assertive artistic practices and constantly renewed technicalities, Réjane Louin has succeeded in bringing together artists, amateurs, collectors and critics.
While organizing each year 4 solo or thematic exhibitions inside the gallery space, the gallery also participates in artfairs in France and abroad (Drawing Now art fair Paris, Bienvenue, Une partie de Campagne Slick Art Fair Paris, Art on Paper Brussels, Drawing Amsterdam ...) and positions itself as a curator of outside events.
0ver the years, the Réjane Louin gallery has proven to be a structuring player in contemporary art in Brittany.
For this edition, Réjane Louin chose to question artists about their relationship to writing and ornamentation. When artists take hold of the book, the page, writing, they create new signs and visual alphabets. Dominique De Beir emphasizes his relationship to the point and writing. For more than 30 years, the artist has explored the surface of things through the breakthrough, the hole, sometimes until the material resistance limit. Her gesture attempts to flush out the thickness to refuse its opacity. The point is intended to be breakthrough and writing (Braille), but also hollow and relief, hazardous and precise. Around Dominique De Beir, the “typoscagrammes” by Joël Hubaut (scoreboards saturated with words and signs (his Epidémik alphabet)), the collages and illegibilities on printed pages by Thomas and the mutant naturalist pages of Elise Bergamini will be presented.
